Bear


9/24/05 (Cairo, IL.) Sierra Puritt and her family friend Bear relax on the front steps of her home after a hard day at work. Many residents of Cario, IL. have to find employment outside of the city. Cairo was once a booming metropolis before the Civil Rights Movement. Many businesses left the town due to racial tension. Those that remain are a grocery store and gas station.

10/20/05 (Cairo, IL.) Arnettra Johnson waits for the school bus to drop off two of the children she babysits on a regular basis. She moved from Florida to Cario so her son would be able to grow up in a better neighborhood. She was also raised in Cario and came back to be close to her family.

4/18/05 (Harrisburg, IL.) Chico and Ethan Bordory cool off after playing at the park. Their mother keeps a close watch on them.

FedEx Crash


12/7/06 (McDonough, Ga) A FedEx truck smashed into a home in the Lake Haven subdivision in McDonough around 1 p.m. Henry County firefighters responded to the accident and stabilized the roof of the garage before removing the truck. The driver of the FedEx truck said he put on the parking brake when he got out of his truck to make a delivery. The truck rolled into the garage of a home across the street damaging the vehicles parked inside.

Junk Fire


3/29/06 (McDonough, Ga.) Henry County firefighters respond to a junkyard fire in McDonough. Various gases in the air provided additional concerns for the firefighters. The cause of the fire is believed to be a brush fire that spread to surrounding areas.

America's Most Wanted


3/1/08 (McDonough, GA) Maj. Jeff Floyd and officer Larry Gossett, with the McDonough Police Department, escort 18-year-old Dwayne Edward Lee to the Henry Couny Jail. Lee is a murder suspect in Florida. He was captured during a suprise arrest at 4 a.m. Friday at a house in McDonough where he had been staying.

1/9/07 (McDonough, Ga.) Juli Gilbert, a media specialist at McDonough Elementary School, reads pop-up books to first-grade students during their library visit. Gilbert has recently become a National Board Certified Teacher.

Protest


10/19/05 (Carbondale, IL.) Shirley Phelps-Roper and her two sons Gabriele and Jonah conduct a protest on the SIU campus against Judy Shepard. Shepard was scheduled to speak at the SIU Student Center about her son Matthew Shepard who was killed in a hate crime against homosexuals. Shepard was unable to speak because she was ill but plans to return December 3rd.

Bridge Mill Fire


2/17/07 (McDonough, Ga.) Henry County and McDonough firefighters battle a blaze at the Bridge Mill Apartment complex in McDonough. The fire destroyed one apartment building leaving more than 30 people without a home.

Stockbridge Baseball


3/17/08 (Stockbridge, Ga.) Stockbridge High School outfielder Kyle Turman catches a pop fly as teammate John Cliatt looks on. Stockbridge wins against Jonesboro 8-1.

Disc Dog


4/16/06 (McDonough, Ga.) Mark Muir is a firefighter with the Clayton County Fire Department. In his spare time Muir trains his two boarder collies for flying disc competitions. He placed fourth at the recent Dogwood Festival in Atlanta and is qualified to go onto the international finals.

8/31/07 (McDonough, Ga.) Jamal Patterson of Henry County High School makes the catch over Tony Cochran of Dutchtown High School. Dutchtown edges by the Warhawks with a final score of 41-36.

Little League

7/14/06 (McDonough, Ga.) Locust Grove All Stars player Jim Neagle runs towards third base during the Dizzy Dean World Series game against Ringold. Seven and eight-year old baseball players throughout the state brought their game faces to the AABC Southeast Regionals and Dizzy Dean World Series at Heritage Park in McDonough.

Bee Man


3/19/07 (Hampton, Ga.) Tom Bonnell, 61, of Hampton, began caring for bees in 1996 to help pollinate his six gardens. He now keeps between 250,000 and 500,000 honeybees in nine manufactured bee hives set up along the perimeter of his yard.

6/2/08 (Locust Grove, GA) Pastor Adrian Usher now calls Locust Grove home. Victory Temple Ministries has relocated to 102 Cleveland Street due to extensive storm damage at its original location in McDonough.

Break Camp


2/21/07 (Stockbridge, Ga.) K'lin Epps, 11, skates around the Starlite Skating Center during the YMCA mid-winter break camp. The week-long break camp for children ages 5 to 15 gives area students something constructive to do while out of school.

Rodeo

7/9/08 (Hampton. Ga.) Billy Ray Thunder, of Riverdale, horses around with his mustang, Comanche, that he spent two years breaking. Thunder is a member of the World Rodeo Federation, Bill Picket Invitational Rodeo and the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association.
